In 2007, the top 3 cosmetic surgery procedures among male patients at Fox Valley Plastic Surgery in Wisconsin and across the nation were rhinoplasty (nose reshaping), eyelid surgery, and liposuction. According to statistics from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, rhinoplasty was the cosmetic surgery procedure most frequently performed for men in 2007, with male patients making up 26% of all rhinoplasty procedures. Nose surgery can be an effective option for men who want a more aesthetically pleasing nose or who need to correct breathing problems.
Eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) is another popular option for men in Wisconsin. This plastic surgery procedure corrects droopy skin above the eyes and "bags" under the eyes that can make men look tired and old. During eyelid surgery, excess fat deposits and loose skin are removed from the upper and/or lower eyelids. Scarring is minimal and the procedure can offer the added benefit of increasing visibility for patients whose vision is impaired by sagging skin.
"It makes sense that men are becoming more and more interested in cosmetic surgery," adds Wisconsin plastic surgeon Dr. William Doubek, who joined Dr. Janssen's practice in 1998. "Facial cosmetic surgery in particular can help men look their best in their careers and in their personal lives. But we also see many men who choose cosmetic surgery to enhance their body shape."
The most popular body contouring procedure for men is liposuction. Some men incorrectly think that this is a surgery to achieve weight loss, when in fact the procedure is only used for body shaping. For instance, it is an ideal treatment for love handles and small rolls of fat on the belly that don't respond to diet and exercise. The surgeons at Fox Valley Plastic Surgery work to ensure that they create a manly body contour to meet the goals of their male patients.
